Hi guys
It’s been YEARS since I first asked this question.
What’s up in insurance world lately with regards to “all risk” camera gear?I used to be with my 4×4 insurance (Tuffstuff) and they had amazing all risk coverage, but since I don’t 4×4 anymore, I moved away. Currently with a “general” (read: typical pay pay, deny deny claim) discovery insurance… Frankly, having seen the service and issues so far, I am very scared of ever needing to claim for camera gear.
What and who are you guys using? I don’t want to turn it into a “plug my friends company” post, but names would be nice, facts are facts… if theres a good reliable insurer for this stuff, I want to know about it. Both me and wifey have some expensive stuff (well to us is, and a mugging or car fire would render it irreplacable).
Specialist insurers of just a good general insurance? Just want to hear your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

Marlon, I switched to a new company about two years ago, (purely because their premiums were half of my previous premiums) and have had one claim for repairs on a lens which was damaged when I fell off the stairs and it hit the tiled floor (noooo I was not inebriated ;) )
I have been very happy with service – as well as premiums – and all my gear is insured all risk
From what I recall – its a group that designed his package on the request of some big company in PTA/JHA – perhaps @Photo or something like that. Their premiums were the best I have ever seen, and still with full cover for accidental damage, theft and accidental loss – I hope that still is the case…
This is my own experience – haven’t heard anything else about them
It used to be CGI (underwritten by Alexander Forbes) – changed name or was taken over by APIO

Thanks Elsa for the reply, and the PM’s I got.
I need to switch asap, confirmed this morning how many fine print catches there are with my general discovery insurance at the moment, it’s good but not great. If I slip and fall on my backpack, it seems there will be some drama.Hope this post will also help future searchers.

Marlon – from what I recall – the issue came in with most insurance companies not covering the 3 things I mentioned :
(You might think you are covered until you lodge a claim….)
1. Theft
2. Accidental damage
3. Accidental lossAnd they are all equally important to me
I hope you get sorted
